Abstract

J.E.Calder (1808-1882) arrived in V.D.L. in 1829 as assistant surveyor and had a distinguished career as surveyor and explorer, being appointed surveyor-general in 1859. He was also a prolific writer, chiefly of articles on Tasmanian topograph and early history. He married Elizabeth Margaret Pybus in 1838. RS.19
