Abstract

This thesis study explores the television phenomenon, Gardening Australia, hereafter referred to as GA. The project narrative and analysis follows two core strands, that is the emergence of gardening on Australian Broadcasting Commission (ABC) television, from the program's early local beginnings, to the Tasmanian-based development of a sustainable national identity together with its widely acknowledged garden celebrity and long-standing host, Peter Cundall.
