Abstract

Details of the conflict between Tasmania and New Zealand over sealing rights and the management of Macquarie Island between 1890 and 1894 are presented. Tasmania's refusal to allow New Zealand to engage in sealing activities on Macquarie Island as earlier, since the island had come under its purview, changed over time due to political disinterest about the issue.
