AbstractTwo new species are described and figured: Muraeniahthys tingowenah (Echelidae),
Arnogtossus annstrongi (Bothidae).
Four species are added to the Tasmanian list: Kyphosus sydneyanus (Gunther)
(Kyphosidae), Kyphosus gibsoni Ogilby, Zebrias fasciata Macleay (first Tasmanian
representative of Soleidae), Navodon degeni (Regan) (Aluteridae); accounts are given
of material on which the records are based.
General observations are made on: Muraeniahthys breviaeps Gunther (Echelidae:
correlation of body ratios with total length), Muraeniahthys tasmaniensis McCulloch
(new material, comparison with M. t. smithi Whitley), Mitotiahthys tuakeri (Scott)
(Syngnathidae: new material), Zeus faber Linne (Zeidae: young example), Cyttus australis
(Gunther) (Zeidae: specific determination in terms of some commonly employed criteria),
Enoptosus armatus (White) (Enoplosidae: sample of 29 juveniles, table of dimensions,
relative growth, coloration), Katsuwonus petamis Linne (Katsuwonidae: specimen from
Tamar river, disposition of finlets), Lophoneates gattus Gunther (Bothidae: comparison
with published accounts), Braahioniahthys hirsutus (Lacepede) (Brachionichthyidae:
