Abstract

The usual monthly evening meeting of the Society was held on Tuesday, the 9th May, T. Stephens, Esq., in the chair.-Mr. F. Abbott read some notes on the importance of establishing a Time Signal in Hobart Town, for the purpose of giving the correct time both to the city and to the surrounding districts.-Mr. Dobson observed if a time gun were established it would be well to be careful in fixing upon a proper site.

Additional Information:	In 1843 the Horticultural and Botanical Society of Van Diemen's Land was founded and became the Royal Society of Van Diemen's Land for Horticulture, Botany, and the Advancement of Science in 1844. In 1855 its name changed to Royal Society of Tasmania for Horticulture, Botany, and the Advancement of Science. In 1911 the name was shortened to Royal Society of Tasmania.
