Abstract

I would remind the members present, that many of the notes in this short paper are intended to answer questions that have arisen in various discussions which have taken place on the preceding one on the same subject read in 1868. These notes have been, for the most part, suggested by some critical remarks, made on the subject by Sir John Herschel, to which I shall presently refer.

Additional Information:	In 1843 the Horticultural and Botanical Society of Van Diemen's Land was founded and became the Royal Society of Van Diemen's Land for Horticulture, Botany, and the Advancement of Science in 1844. In 1855 its name changed to Royal Society of Tasmania for Horticulture, Botany, and the Advancement of Science. In 1911 the name was shortened to Royal Society of Tasmania.
