Report includes-List of Fellows-minutes of the annual general meeting of the Royal Society of Tasmania, held at the Museum, Macquarie Street, at 7 o'clock p.m, on the 29th Jaunuary, 1872: Morton Allport, Esq., F.L.S., C.M.A.I., Vice-President, in the chair.-Statement of funds of the Royal Society of Tasmania for the year 1871.-Books purchased and presented during 1871.-List of presentations to the museum during 1871 with names of donors.-Plants and seeds received and sent from the Royal Society's gardens during 1871.-Tench supplied.-Plants supplied from the Royal Society's gardens during the year 1871 for the planting of public places.-Plants introduced into the Royal Society's Gardens during 1871.-

In 1843 the Horticultural and Botanical Society of Van Diemen's Land was founded and became the Royal Society of Van Diemen's Land for Horticulture, Botany, and the Advancement of Science in 1844. In 1855 its name changed to Royal Society of Tasmania for Horticulture, Botany, and the Advancement of Science. In 1911 the name was shortened to Royal Society of Tasmania.
