Abstract

Peter Lundberg will speak about his personal experiences living and working as a sculptor and curator around the world; working within the community of sculptors, working with sculpture organizations around the world and developing sculpture parks such as ‘Sculpture for New Orleans’. He will discuss travelling the symposium circuit, creating sculptures in strange new places, and the challenges and surprises of working in countries where you don’t speak the language! He will also talk about the value of apprenticeships; working for other artists to learn the ropes, and welcome any questions from the audience. For the last two years Lundberg has exhibited in China and Australia and has numerous permanent sculptures in both countries. This year Peter was the recipient of the prestigious Nord Art Prize in Germany, selected from more than 250 artists, and is currently working with Senator Bill Carris of Vermont in the development of a free sculpture park.

As a part of the next Ten Days on the Island festival (March 15-24 2013) there will be a large scale installation by international award winning, Tasmanian based sculptor Marcus Tatton, at the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens - Tatton@RTBG. Marcus has invited Vermont based artist and curator Peter Lundberg to curate Tatton@RTBG. Marcus’ impressive and arresting work has gained attention nationally through its exposure in public exhibitions and private collections, and this major visual arts project will be one of the cornerstone works of the Ten Days 2013 programme. The installation of 8 large artworks will commence in late 2012, with the ten days of festival to be the final days of installation.
