The housing strategies of sole mothers in inner city Hobart
thesis
posted on 2023-05-27, 07:41 authored by Watchorn, EMThe location of different social groups within metropolitan areas has always been a focus of study for Geographers. Sole mothers as a particular sub-group in society have grown over the last 10 years, at a rate faster than that for families headed by sole fathers or couples. The focus of the study is on the location of this particular group in inner city housing. The required result was an understanding of why this particular outcome should exist. The understanding was acquired by looking at a set of broad structural processes that contribute to the conditions in the housing and labour markets in Australia, and the relationship different sole mothers have within this structure. The overall understanding developed from this study was of the importance of structure and the strategies formed by the individuals in explaining the outcome. The method also recognises the potential of processes to undergo change and the implication this may have for the future housing strategies of sole mothers.
