Abstract

An early daguerreotype and photograph of Ann Mather (nee Benson) 1786-1831, daughter of Joseph Benson and mother of Sarah Benson Walker. We presume the daguerreotype is of a painting because that photographic process began in 1837 six years after Ann's death. The photographer was John Watt Beattie who worked from 1879 until the 1920s.
