Abstract

This report addresses the current status of the instream biota (flora and fauna) of streams downstream of the Poatina power station tailrace, namely Brumbys Creek, and the lower Macquarie and South Esk Rivers. It evaluates the influence of the current Hydro power station at Poatina on the instream ecology and fishery of this system. It then examines the possible effects of changes in flow regime which may result from the Basslink development (as modelled using TEMSIM). Management issues are described, and possible mitigation options explored. Monitoring requirements are also described.
