Abstract

Alexander Lotersztain (b.1977) is a genuine global nomad. Born in Argentina to Polish parents, he travelled extensively as a child and moved from Buenos Aires to Brisbane in 1998. It was in Brisbane that he completed a design degree and was named the Design Institute of Australia’s “Best Design Student”. He then worked in Japan for a year, designing products for Sputnik and Idee.

Lotersztain has won many awards in both product and interior design including being named as one of the top 100 most influential international designers. He is also the lead design consultant for the Research and Development team of the In Africa Foundation. His involvement with this Foundation includes working directly with village communities in rural Africa to develop commercially viable design products that can be made by local artisans, utilising local materials, for international export markets. Through this work, design becomes a platform for community growth and development.

Lotersztain brings with him a wealth of expertise across a range of creative disciplines and is a fantastic example of contemporary design and innovation in action.
