Abstract
Having devoted some spare time to the further investigation
of the Launceston Tertiary Basin, the taking stock of
whatever information I have been enabled to glean since my
last communication, may not be uninteresting to the members
of the Royal Society.

| Additional Information: | Robert Mackenzie Johnston (1843-1918), civil servant, scientist and statistician, was born on 27 November 1843 at Connage, Inverness-shire, Scotland, son of Lachlan Johnstone, crofter, and his wife Mary, née Mackenzie. In 1843 the Horticultural and Botanical Society of Van Diemen's Land was founded and became the Royal Society of Van Diemen's Land for Horticulture, Botany, and the Advancement of Science in 1844. In 1855 its name changed to Royal Society of Tasmania for Horticulture, Botany, and the Advancement of Science. In 1911 the name was shortened to Royal Society of Tasmania. |
