Abstract

Four bifolia (double leaves) on parchment, formerly in the early binding of a copy of Robert Estienne, Thesaurus, pr. Paris, 1531. This copy is a humble one, written in a clear but low-grade French bookhand with numerous abbreviations to save on expensive parchment.

The sermons of the Dominican friar Guy d’Evreux were extremely popular in manuscript and print. This copy, in small format, may well have been carried about by a friar who would have either read the sermons out to his audience, or used them as models for sermons of his own.

The host book was owned by Prof. Hermann Suchier c. 1900. The fragments were acquired by B. M. Rosenthal, bookseller of New York; bought from him by the University Library in 1961.
