About the Repository

History

The University of Tasmania's first ePrints repository commenced operation in June 2004, operated by the School of Computing. The School introduced a policy of requiring its staff and students to deposit all their research articles, but encouraged other members of the University to add material if they wished. Professor Arthur Sale and Christian McGee also wrote additional software to provide user-oriented statistics, and to interface the repository to the Australasian Digital Theses Program (ADT).

In 2006, the University Library started planning to take over responsibility for the repository, and the School collaborated with Information Technology Resources to establish the present server, which went live in November 2006. The repository has been managed by the Library since 2006.

The Repository now focusses on providing access to digitised content from unique items held by the Library in its special collections.
