Abstract
Will chase up the book he wants but as yet still unobtainable. Took a trip down to Geelong last Monday describes the town and scenery, feels more at home here than in the city. Describes his work in the office and some procedures he had to go through in chambers including meeting the judge in his chambers in his scarlet robes. He also details some of the cases he is involved with. Walter is enjoying his work and good health. Caught up with George Macmillan. Talks about the Melbourne Chess Club and that it seems to be a place of nod , not much going on as opposed to the room especially set aside at the tavern where he resides which seems very healthy and active. Letters between Andrew Inglis Clark, Tasmania and Joseph G. Witton, Melbourne, 13 Sept 1882 - 9 Dec 1885 regarding his work as a law clerk in Melbourne, his friends, especially Walter Gill, religion, the Unitarian Church, George Walters, Mrs Webster, visit of Moncure Conway in 1883, family, health, Miss Witton's estate in England, books, chess and the foundation of the Chess Club 1883-4, visit to Ballarat, U.S. Independence Day 1883
