Abstract
OPHICHTHYIDAE. Ophisurus serpens Linne, 1758: large scale stranding on Flinders Island; specimens described, compared with earlier material. NOMEIDAE. Cubiceps caeruleus Regan, 1914: first Tasmanian record; general account; ventral rays. REGALECIDAE. Regalecus paciJicus Haast, 1878: general account, with photographs, of two recent local strandings; color pattern. CARANGIDAE. Trachurus novaezelandiae Richardson, 1843: additional records; comparison with first Tasmanian specimen, reported as T. mccullochi Nichols, 1920.
SCOMBRIDAE. Gasterochisma melampus Richardson, 1845: specimen from western Tasmania (Earthwatch); comparison with earlier material; height of dorsal and anal finlets functions of dorsal and ventral body profiles. BOVICHTHYIDAE. Pseudaphritis bursinus (Cuvier, 1830): considered senior synonym of P. urvillii; detailed study with a critical review of published accounts of species; differential growth; length of ventral rays a function of height of body.
