Abstract

The monthly meeting of the Royal Society
of Tasmania was held on Monday,
the 14th inst., the president (His Excellency
Sir A. Elibank Havelock, G.C.S.I.,
etc.) presiding.
Includes: Election of new members, presentations and papers from Mr. Twelvetrees and Mr. Petterd. Mr. J. W. Beattie exhibited over 130
views of interesting spots on the East
Coast, and imparted some useful information
regarding the early history of that
part of Tasmania, and the attractions it
now provides for holiday-makers.

In 1843 the Horticultural and Botanical Society of Van Diemen's Land was founded and became the Royal Society of Van Diemen's Land for Horticulture, Botany, and the Advancement of Science in 1844. In 1855 its name changed to Royal Society of Tasmania for Horticulture, Botany, and the Advancement of Science. In 1911 the name was shortened to Royal Society of Tasmania.
