Abstract
The monthly meeting of the Royal
Society of Tasmania was held on Tuesday,
May l6, at the Museum. The President,
the Administrator of the Government
(His Excellency Mr Justice Dodds, C.M.G.,
C.J.) presided.
The administrator was congratulated upon becoming Chief Justice.
New members were elected and a visitor, Mr. H. M.
Chrisp, engineer of the Great Western
Railway was introduced to the present members.
The Secretary submitted the following
paper on "Felsites and Associated Rocks
of Mount Read," by Messrs. W. H. Twelvetrees,
F.G.S., and W. F. Petterd,
O.M.Z.S.
Mr. W. H. Dawson read a paper on
"Forecasts of the Future in Modern
Literature."
Mr. J . W. Beattie read a most interesting
paper, and Mr. Leonard Rodway
gave an account of a recent visit made
by them to the Hartz Mountains and
the Picton district.

In 1855 its name changed to Royal Society of Tasmania for Horticulture, Botany, and the Advancement of Science. In 1911 the name was shortened to Royal Society of Tasmania. |
