Abstract

Abstract of meteorological observations, Tasmania, for the year 1877.
Results of observations taken at the Private Observatory, Hobart Town and at New Norfolk, for March, 1877, in accordance with new forms etc.
Includes times of leafing, flowering and fruiting of a few standard plants in the Royal Society’s Gardens during the month of February, 1877.
March began, like January and February, with cold stormy weather, for a week it was windy and drying, rain fell on six days, the measurement being the smallest amount registered in any month during the last four years.

In 1843 the Horticultural and Botanical Society of Van Diemen's Land was founded and became the Royal Society of Van Diemen's Land for Horticulture, Botany, and the Advancement of Science in 1844. In 1855 its name changed to Royal Society of Tasmania for Horticulture, Botany, and the Advancement of Science. In 1911 the name was shortened to Royal Society of Tasmania.
