Abstract
Recording of a memorial service held at the Stanley Burbury Theatre University of Tasmania on the 6th June 1991 to celebrate the life of George Thomas Jamieson Wilson (5 September 1907 - 3 June 1991). Introduction by Dr John Donaldson, Maths Department with contributions by Professor Michael Roe, History, Dr John Brodie, Engineering, Dr Bruce Felmingham, Commerce and Alan Bray TRU Rugby. George Wilson joined the University of Tasmania in 1945 as a lecturer in history and retired in 1974. Mr Wilson was Warden of Hytten Hall, the university’s first residential college, for the 14 years before his retirement, and he had a remarkable rapport with students. During the 1950s he was student counsellor and a keen rugby union player. He helped establish the game of rugby in Tasmania.
