Abstract

'Typus orbis terrarum' Ortelius ?1570

The world in one elongated sphere, including New Guinea 'recently discovered'. Terra Australis nondum congnita [southern land not yet known] in strip along bottom. Includes indication of northern Australia and 'Beach'. Next to New Guinea is note in Latin 'but uncertain whether it is an island or part of the continent of Australia'.
