Abstract
Letter from James MacArthur dated 10th February 1859 asking "your friendly aid" in seeking appointment to Mr Noyes' post as Police Magistrate at Port Sorrel during Noyes' leave of absence. Letter from the correspondence of William Henty (1808-1881), the fifth of the nine sons of Thomas Henty
(1775-1839). William Henty, a solicitor, came to Tasmania in 1837 to join his father and brothers who had emigrated earlier. William Taylor Noyes was the Assistant Police Magistrate for Great Swan Port and Spring Bay until 1856. He was then promoted to the position of Police Magistrate in charge of the Mersey District, Deputy Commissioner of the Court of Records at Port Sorell, and Collector of Customs at Port Frederick. He remained in government service until his retirement in March of 1863. Private Deposit H6/17
