Abstract

Proceedings of the Monthly Meeting of the Royal Society of Tasmania held on the 13th December, 1854, the chair was occupied by Joseph
Hone, Esq., senior member of the Council.
Upon a ballot taking place, the following gentlemen were declared duly elected
Fellows :
The Rev. John Allen Manton and Arthur Gardiner, Esq. , both of Hobart Town.
A message was received from His Excellency the President excusing his nonattendance. List of donations received for the Library and the Museum. Mr. Moss inquired whether any steps had been taken by the Council in the
matter of an address to His Excellency the President on his retirement .

In 1843 the Horticultural and Botanical Society of Van Diemen's Land was founded and became the Royal Society of Van Diemen's Land for Horticulture, Botany, and the Advancement of Science in 1844. In 1855 its name changed to Royal Society of Tasmania for Horticulture, Botany, and the Advancement of Science. In 1911 the name was shortened to The Royal Society of Tasmania.
