Abstract

The chemical and physical properties and constitution of molten salts are discussed and also the need for such solvents. The main classes of solutions involving molten salts are systems involving salt and water, salt and organic substance, salt and non-metal, salt and gas, salt and metal, and salt with another salt. The properties of such systems are discussed. Where possible, tables of solubility are included and in certain cases the structure of the molten salt solutions are discussed. Examples of the application of molten salt solvents to chemical and industrial problems are given and the potential uses of such solvents are mentioned.
