Abstract
This thesis is a synthesis of over 20 years research on Southern Ocean marine mammals and seabirds. While drawing on a number of biological disciplines, these studies are united by the common theme of understanding how predators populations respond to environmental variability, and how this knowledge can be used to investigate the implications of anthropogenic change (in the form of commercial fisheries or climate change) for Southern Ocean birds and mammals.
