Abstract

Photograph of the Leeta May and the Oenone at the Hobart Regatta competing in the trading ketch race. The Leeta May, a 200-ton schooner was the
last ship built by John Wilson of Cygnet. She was used to transport timber
across Bass Strait. Oenone was a Linton Hope designed sloop-rigged yacht,
built in Hobart in 1913. The photographer was Henry Baily, son of Henry Hall Baily a Tasmanian portrait and landscape photographer who operated a photographic studio from Elizabeth and Liverpool Street, Hobart between 1865-1918. After Baily seniors death in 1910, the studio was managed by his son, also called Henry, until 1918. From Photograph Collection Pr.Shp 7
