Abstract

Power Flow Analysis is basic to most studies of power systems. To analyze the power flow problem, the conventional approach is applied together with useful measures in power system studies : the numerical iterative techniques, the single-line diagram and the per-unit representation. This thesis deals with two inter-related aspects of power flow analysis - the technical and the economic. The methodology, the basic mathematical models and the major methods commonly used in each analysis are systematized in order to provide the theoretical foundation to the problem. The technical power flow and economic
analysis is then applied to a system modelled on a simplified version of the practical power system of Tasmania, Australia. The application is performed with the use of digital computers, DAPPER software
and MATLAB programming language for the technical analysis, and Excel spreadsheet software for the economic analysis.
