Abstract

This thesis explores the role of business in sustainable development. The study
reviews much of the academic literature on sustainability, sustainable development,
corporate social responsibility and related practices. The study then focuses on the
interpretation and implementation of sustainable development, corporate social
responsibility and related practices in the Australian mining sector. The case study of
a leading Australian mining company is analysed to comprehend the stance on
corporate social responsibility, sustainable development and the steps taken towards
it. The findings indicate that the company has a commitment towards sustainable
development and initiatives are being taken towards achieving it.
