Abstract
Knowledge on the biogeography of pelagic phytoplankton serves (1) as a baseline for climate change andocean acidification, (2) to assess the impact from human impacts such as eutrophication and ship ballastwater introductions, (3) as a guide for natural resource planning and management, and (4) to provideinsight into palaeobiogeography and understand drivers of biodiversity.
