Abstract
Creative practice music research students starting out on their project "journey" often face a more difficult task than students in other disciplines or by those in other subcategories of music research. In other disciplines and traditional musicology, the investigative process is often clearly delineated with a well-trod path and the methodological options defined or limited. Consequently, students from these disciplines often seem to be at an advantage, being well versed in applicable research concepts, language, and proven and approved methodologies. By contrast, the creative practice researcher often finds that their project requires bespoke approaches to the finer points of methodology and is more frequently subject to misinformed criticism.
