Abstract

In the early 1900s northern Tasmania's Tamar Valley experienced an unprecedentedboom in land speculation for orcharding. The boom gathered pace about 1900and continued until the early 1920s by which time nearly a million apple trees hadbeen planted in the numerous orchards along the river's banks.
