Abstract

This chapter evaluates eco-restoration governance through the intertwined lensesof time and space (aka ‘timescapes’) because they offer novel and importantinsights into restoration decision-making that analyses focusing on actors, toolsand other commonly evaluated dimensions do not reveal so clearly. Drawing onsome examples and ideas from my recent book Time and Environmental Law, but extending it considerably with fresh insights on the spatial context, the chapterhas two aims: first, to demonstrate how time and space can be used to critiquecurrent thinking about eco-restoration, especially in light of the Anthropocene, which is re-shaping human perceptions of time and space; and second, to illuminate potential pathways for governance reform that can improve eco-restorationpractices.
