Abstract

A thorough understanding of the scattering characteristicsof marine organisms is a prerequisite for robust quantitative fisheriesacoustic data processing or interpretation. Target strength models, suchas the distorted wave Born approximation (DWBA) can be used toimprove the understanding of field recordings of weakly scattering targets.With acoustic methods now being used by a wide audience, allowingaccess to such models becomes a necessity. To ease access to theDWBA model, an R package (ZOOSCATR) which includes a web applicationand the ability to parameterise the model either through the webapplication, text files, or pure scripting has been developed and is nowfreely available on Github.
