Abstract

The premiere of a new Australian play , Islamophilia is based on real-life events from another time and place: a love story, about a charismatic woman, the men who love her and the sacrifices they make as they argue, declare love, confront dying and death. Five passionate, intelligent and courageous people fight to save “their” Islam from its brutal and bloody politicisation. Set in Melbourne , they launch a new online journal—Islamophilia—to promote the Islam they know, an Islam of art, beauty and tolerance. Will they succeed? There are dark forces threatening.
