Abstract
Optical measurements of monodisperse microbubblesdispersed by a cross flow in a quiescent environment arepresented. The dispersion is controlled by injecting the bubblytrain exiting a microfluidic T-junction into a 1 mm diametercross flow. Near range microscopy is used to obtain an effectivefield of view for dual-shot shadowgraphy measurements. Theair and water pressures of the microfluidic T-junction, alongwith the shear flow velocity, are varied to determine the effectthese parameters have on the microbubble size, spacing, production frequency and velocity. Suitable operatingparameters are established based on the microbubble size andconsistency of the measurements for application to thedevelopment and calibration of optical measurementtechniques.
