Abstract
The interrelationship of the arts with our health and wellbeing is achieving increasing prominence as an area of study. The arts are recognised for giving people the opportunity for self-expression and a collective voice, as well as a reducing pain, anxiety and stress in hospital environments, and supporting community engagement and social connectedness. The arts tell our stories, and for people with chronic illness, these stories can present an opportunity for their experience to be recognised, validated and understood.
