Abstract

BioSynthetic Systems, Prototypes for Immortality: Towards a Distributed and Evolving SelfThe project was funded by a Creative Sparks research grant from the Brisbane City Council and represents the first major art-science collaboration between the QUT Centre of Regenerative Medicine and UTAS School of Creative Arts. The project was selected to accompany the Critical Connections Symposium held at QUT in 2017. The work is currently being considered for inclusion in the Spare Parts program for Science Gallery in London. BioSynthetic Systems: Artificial and Engineered LifeThe project was selected by The National Science Week and Festival of Bright Ideas (FOBI) curatorial team as an exemplar of the possible intersections between science and art. The work was exhibited on the 12th of August and included a session with school children on the 11th of August. The exhibition was viewed by 1900 school children on School’s Day and 5000 festival attendees on open day. Participation resulted in an invitation to propose new art-science research projects for FOBI 2018 ensuring ongoing involvement of the arts in key STEM events.
