Abstract

My involvement with iodine research began in 1953 as a pupil at Ross Primary School. Each week we were given a 10 mg potassium iodide tablet as part of the State wide trial. The tablets were often handed on to the children who liked the salty taste, or when we could get away with it put in the ink wells to change the uniform blue -black of school ink to a purplish colour. On one occasion at least I can remember taking a term's supply of tablets home for my mother to hand out. They seemed to be eaten when someone remembered or found them in the cupboard.
