Abstract

This paper considers the role of cooperative education in journalism studies in Australia and New Zealand. It describes the benefits for journalism students of a liberal arts degree of a work placement unit in Tasmania, Australia when bracketed with reflection and analysis. It then looks at some of the issues surrounding cooperative education when combined with a skills-based training, industry-dominated program in new Zealand. Other issues and some strategies to deal with them are also described.
