Abstract
Marie Sierra will be speaking about her recent work, with a bit of background on the development of the work over time. She will also show some images from her PhD thesis, which was about how nature is socially constructed through the advertising of 'green' whitegoods.
Professor Marie Sierra arrived in Australia in 1984 to undertake her MFA at the School of Art in Hobart. She then moved to Melbourne, where she worked in the School of Art at RMIT and the Victorian College of the Arts – both in the Sculpture departments of those universities and in senior management. Along the way she did a PhD in the School of Architecture & Design at RMIT on nature as a social construct, which is also the focus of her art practice. She has held solo and group exhibitions within Australia and overseas, published articles on contemporary art, and won several grants and awards, including five Australia Council Grants.
