Abstract
Creative inspiration and practical motivation as an artist
Time and again people ask "what is art?" and answers vary depending on the sympathies of the respondent. I am more interested in the question of artistic inspiration: "How can artists continue to make art in a world that questions what art is?"
Evan Maloney is an Australian-born writer who lived in Europe for fourteen years between 1997 and 2010. His first novel, Tofu Landing, was published in the UK in early 2010 and looks at the relationship between media, celebrity and contemporary art. He has worked as an art critic/commentator and has been a script consultant for several European production companies for the past five years. Since July 2010 he has been the Development Manager at Screen Tasmania.
