Abstract

Manuscripts of sermons preached by Rev. Knopwood 1801 -1829. Sermons include, On the King's accession [nd], On the love of our country - 1801, Funeral of Princess Charlotte of Wales - 1817, Death of George III - 17 September 1820, A "condemned" sermon - 27 April 1821, On the state of the departed - 6 December 1829.
Robert Knopwood (1763 - 1838) was ordained in 1789 and was the first clergyman to serve in Tasmania. He sailed with David Collins' expedition to Port Phillip in 1803, transferring to Van Diemen's land in 1804. He lived at Cottage Green' in Battery Point and also had property at Clarence Plains (Rokeby).Knopwood was known as a kind and active preacher who toured his parish on horseback and gave sermons across southern Tasmania. - Private Deposit K.1/1-6
